In the winter of 1960, the industrial southern city of Greensboro in central North Carolina, was just the type of place, where the tensions rising out of a flawed era of oppression and prejudice, precipitated a justified and brave stand, against the oppressive laws which had victimized so many Black Americans. Along with four of the original participants, Clarence Henderson, a young college student, was eager to stand up for justice and for his community. Thus, a protest began, simple in nature, but grand in outcome. Clarence and his brave colleagues, simply wanted to be served at the lunch counter inside of a Woolworths department store, despite the signs saying, “WHITES ONLY” was clearly on display. This was the catalyst of a movement, which spread to many other lunch counters across the South, and began to unravel the racial inequality that existed in the United States, for far too long. Forgotten Courage is a once forgotten story about the life of Clarence Henderson, one of the Woolworth Lunch Counter protestors, and a story of bravery, salvation and awakening.
